The Approachables: On Sound Stage Mountain

The Approachables: On Sound Stage Mountain

We said we'd heard rumblings! And now, a knock on the door. What's this? Like a cooing child in basket left by mysterious parents, like supply without demand, a fairly rare occurrence: a debut LP ten years after the fact? Somewhere, it seems, The Approachalbes are still toiling, no doubt rolled in soot and sweat to bring the world pop diamonds in the rough.

We are the Tryhardz, nobody else. If you think J.K. Phil Ose is anybody else you better think twice Mr. Rice. And if you think Young Coconut is anyone else you betta..ha.. not think.

Now hear a short story:

Barbet Biscoe mounted his stalling steed (because his steed was a slow mule) to escort him away from Dirtiest Camelot the home of the Hardz, the Trys’ reside a fortnight east of the Hardz council. Barbet was discouraged at the treatment the Hardz gave him and he left, finding himself entangled in a reef nine leagues under the sea where he died because of his ignorance.  Written by J.K. Try Hardz: Dirtiest Camelot Part 2

Ahoy, music fans!  Try Hardz, one of Fauxtown’s perhaps lesser-known acts, are here to say they want ****you**** to download their brand new, 4th album, called “Dirtiest Camelot”! This is the second half!

Try Hardz have been holed up for months in their sewer-studio brewing up this one.  They know what kind of music their fans have had to resort to listening to in the meantime, and they’re here to save the proverbial day.  Topics include sex-before marriage, plain old sex, 90’s television, fast food chains, tea, dissings, and more.  Its like a regular Jeopardy line-up of hot topics!  So what are you waiting for, Christmas to roll around again?  Go git it!

Young Coconut: Touch of Bitch

Young Coconut: Touch of Bitch

Though there have been many EPs up to this point, there has yet to be an LP from the prolific, quantific Fauxtown artist, Young Coconut.  And lets be honest, they're detached...lackluster... not quite giving it a full effort, one might say. But NOW, for perhaps the first time, Young Coconut gets in touch with his own soul and releases a bonified album chock full of emo-tion, and delivers something with down home gumption. Be the first to hear it, be the first to hate it...or perhaps...just perhaps......
And what does Young Coconut have to say about "touch of bitch"?
....
(We dial the number... 888-GNUT... the cell phone just rings and rings)
No response...none at all.  What can this mean?

Young Coconut: Sophistry

Young Coconut: Sophistry

"This five song sucka is digital dynamite!", says Young Coconut, licking a lolly, and kicking back at his new deluxe apartment located somewhere in Southwestern Ontario. "Now I'm not playin' around this time like I was on the previous three," he says, finally reaching the chocolate centre with a crunch and a confused look, "This one is more...  errrmm... dynamic, yeah, that's it! No, no, no! This one's for true fans only...yeah... true fans only."
Young Coconut: SophistryMore Details

Young Coconut: Phresh Cut Man

Young Coconut: Phresh Cut Man

Young Coconut shocks fan by releasing unannounced EP! ”Yeah, that’s right” he said, casually eating a dragon fruit, “against better judgement I have released an 8 song EP just in time for the holidays…and its available as of this week for the low, low price of $5”.  Finishing off the dragon fruit, he said to this interviewer, “Now this press conference is FINISHED as well!” and he stormed off.  As it turns out, the EP is available at Encore Records(on the floor by the door, with the other freebies) as well as here at Fauxtown Records.  Peace!

Rob Smith: Mutiny

Rob Smith: Mutiny

By the time that the bed tracks were recorded for this outing, Rob's Vancouver-based band Ray, was on the verge of a split.  After playing bars around the Lower Mainland since 2000, the 2 sessions recorded in the winter of 2003 would be the last time that Ray (Rob Smith, Neal Ryan, Steve Vickery and Sean Lavoy) played together as a band.  Rob would work with Vickery, producer Oliver Conway and a number of other Vancouver area musicians to put the finishing touches on the recording that was finally released in July 2005.  This is a lush, multi-track, guitar-laden effort that begs to be spun on headphones.  The release coincided with Rob's move to Ontario, which found him settling in Kitchener.

Rob Smith: Incubator

Rob Smith: Incubator

While this was really the third solo effort by Rob Smith, percussionist Carlos Joe Costa introduced Irish barrage-guitarist Neal Ryan for some session riffing.  Things turned out so well that Rob and Neal would go on to form the duo, and then later four-piece outfit Ray.  The second and third edition of Incubator, known to fans as the “bloody pumpkin-hole album” was pressed as a Ray recording, and sold from the stage.  While quite a bit mellower than Ray performances proved to be live, the guitar interplay that made the whole thing gel is apparent.  Check out the evidence on the title track.

Childebeast: The Beastmasters

Childebeast: The Beastmasters

FACT: Childebeast is the first all-wolf band to emerge from Canada. Their debut album, "The Beastmasters", ought to be considered a small miracle, as these animals bit and chewed guitar strings, clawed keyboards, and growled at drumkits to somehow produce a sound that has an uncannily humanoid resonance. Believe you-me, ladies and sirs, upon hearing the finished work, the executives at Fauxtown Records lunged at the chance to sign this act. And so here it is, signed/sealed/delivered, its yours, "The Beastmasters"!

Yim Tin Tam: Pink Magic

Yim Tin Tam: Pink Magic

A radical departure from their previous musical endevours (ie. a whole lotta thumb twiddlin'), Yim Tin Tam died giving birth to this 13 track, 0 oz infant, which had a 14 month gestation period. A wake for Yim Tin Tam will be held on Halloween night at Phil's Grandson's in Waterloo, where some of its members were once known to raise a $2 drink aloft. The two infamous EPs by KW's Yim Tin Tam

Come Fly With Me

Recorded in 2005, this EP was recorded with the following original YTT line-up: Dave Fox, Adrian Bos, Andrea Mauro, Brandon Forler. Recorded and mixed by Nathan Morris at Studio Assgaard. Cover art by YTT. A four-song warts-and-all representation of a band coping with not being accepted as superstars despite having done nothing to become even marginally well-known, even locally. And so "Come Fly With Me" was panned by their parents, grandparents, and little Pogo-munching nephews, and deemed as "a flop", and religated to the backwaters of their personal hard-drives. Until now! Regarded at the time as "K-W's newest hitmakers" by someone wishing to remain anonymous, hear the seething rage...hear how it all began!

  • For Now

Gumball For A Scumball

Imagine if you will, K-W: the dead of winter. A drummerless YTT craves to end its gigless, beatless existence. As an epitaph, the band creates "Gumball For A Scumball", their way of saying "farewell, cruel world" to a fanbase that they never cultivated. Originally concieved as a latter-day Beach Boys homage, a young beatsmith named Jeff Lyons entered the fray just in time to provide superior drumkit action. Just the same as if someone aboard the Titanic had said "hey, look out for that iceberg!", youthful Jeff averted catastrophe at the last possible instant by adding fly beats to two of Gumball's three tracks. Even still, the Good Ship YTT crashed into a different iceberg soon after...the iceberg known as apathy. :(

Once again, only a small run of CDs were released for public consumption. The songs remained dormant on Adrian's computer, festering like an untreated panther bite...until NOW!
